Canadian Waltz
Fingerstyle Guitar
30/7/2008, Liz Patton
Celtic music is often considered the realm of the session - that it takes many people to create a great sounding arrangement of the tunes, but I
submit this peice as an example of the stark beauty one guitar can create with these tunes. I first ran across this tune from a fiddle-teaching friend of mine and I worked it up as a contest piece.
So far as I know, the song came from France into Canada, and then into the Celtic, Bluegrass and Appalachian folk genres.
The melody is simply incased in a few
bass tones and embelishments. The trick, since I didn't put in the classical fingering notation, is that I often slide on the G string
between the A and B notes. I've included the full arrangement in standard notation and tab. Below the images is a link to the .PDF of the song.
Happy Picking!
